About us
Toby Smedley commercial photographer Brighton
Hi, I'm Toby Smedley of Exposure Photography, a fully qualified commercial photographer with more than 20 years' professional experience. Whatever, I'm asked to do through the lenses of my cameras, I do it with passion. I relish a challenge and value highly, happy loyal clients.
Specialist areas in commercial photography include:
- Portraits (on location or in the studio)
- Products (on location or in the studio)
- Education
- Architecture
- Industry
- PR and events
- HD Video
- High resolution panoramics
I pride myself on delivering high quality photography that consistently answers the brief and often exceeds it. Providing a friendly, professional and efficient service at competitive rates is also, always a top priority.
My approach is pragmatic and creative enabling me not only to plan ahead but also to problem solve effectively. This comes in handy, especially when the unexpected happens on location.
Video as well as stills
What seemed impossible only a few years ago is becoming the norm. Still and moving images now fill our worlds, streaming at ever increasing speeds.
Therefore, moving into video production using DSLRs as their capability has evolved, was a totally natural direction to take. My brother, Chris is my right hand man. He's our sound-man on shoots. He takes care of all the high quality audio recording, leaving me free to concentrate on operating the cameras. When we’re finished shooting, he’s busy in the studio editing the footage. This is typically uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo, embedded in websites and promoted via other social media channels (which he also does for clients).
Another bonus for you, is that we can shoot both stills and video at the same time.
Where we work
Based mostly in, or from the Lewes studio but also working from Bristol, I cover the south of England. This includes Sussex, Kent, Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire as well as London. From Bristol I cover Wiltshire, Somerset, Gloucestershire and south Wales.
Time off
What do I like to do in my spare time? First and foremost has to be spending time with my lovely wife and daughter. As a family, we particularly love travelling to and exploring new places. Nearer to home, we endulge in National Trust properties and their grounds. We love snuggly 'movie nights' at home, complete with popcorn and open fires in the winter.
I'm a self-confessed gastronome and enjoy cooking and eating really good food with lovely friends. Vietnamese and Thai cuisine are particular favourites of mine.
I've always been a keen motorcyclist and find the focus of riding takes my mind away from life's worries. It relaxes me. I used to race in the vintage classes (with the VMCC) a few years ago, with some success but that wasn't very relaxing.
I try and keep abreast of current affairs and especially the shifting sands of world politics. I've recently tried my hand at fencing (yes, with a foil...'en garde'). It's much more challenging than I'd thought it would be. I'm much more comfortable with a camera in my hands.
If you need ideas or suggestions to assist you developing your photographic brief, I’m always happy to help, so give me a call.
What customers say
"You’re a genius Mr Smedley!
Once you have sent us the final selection of images, we would like to choose some of them to blow up and frame for the meeting room and reception areas. Thank you so much"
Thanks
