I carefully research suitable locations and subject matter along with the best times of day to photograph them. Typically, rural views and scenes of natural beauty work really well. Landscapes, vistas, landmarks and local points of interest also make great panos. Urban scenes, including architecture and cityscapes do, too. It's also possible to photograph some interiors this way.

Nat West's major UK branch refits

As a member of the CPN (Commercial Photographers Network), I recently worked with Nat West Bank (RBS). We supplied them with hundreds of panoramas for their refits of high street branches across the UK. As a consequence, I've built up quite a library of views of Sussex, Kent and Surrey.

I'm proud to say the Lewes branch of Nat West has one of my panoramas of Lewes Castle. It covers an entire wall, floor to ceiling.

What are panoramas, (or panoramic photography)?

Panoramic photographs are the product of 'stitching' a patchwork of single frame images together. This is done using specialist software such as Photoshop, PTGui or Autopano. Typically, anything from 10 - 27 individual frames are overlapped, stitched together and then rendered as a 'cylindrical' panorama. These invariably have an uncompressed file size of 200Mb to 500Mb and sometimes more. 

I always use a sturdy tripod with a calibrated VR head. This allows the camera to rotate about the 'entrance pupil' of the lens. Thus, any potential parallax between shots is minimised.

The same technology and technique are the basis for producing immersive and interactive virtual tours.

My charges are the same as my standard photography rates. Additional per hour fees apply for any prior research, post production and rendering.
