Medical photography for Blond McIndoe

Rebrand
Toby Smedley at Exposure Photography was hand picked by the Blond McIndoe Research Foundation to help them with their rebrand. Blond McIndoe are at the forefront of research into burns and wound healing technology. They required a fresh stock of images to bring their website and promotional material up to date.
Medical photography live in surgery
It was both a challenging and rewarding project. The images needed to have a balance between visual impact and empathy for the subject matter. Toby's images can be seen juxtaposed with historical photographs of Sir Archibald's pioneering work with the Guinea Pig Club.

Below is and extract from the Blond McIndoe blog (not for the faint hearted).
'Mr Dheansa had previously carried out operations on this patient and was working on building him a new nose which involved cutting a flap on his forehead and bringing it down his face to become the basis for this. It felt quite a privilege to watch him form this new feature out of skin and cartilage to enable his patient to regain a recognisable facial feature in the same place where Sir Archibald McIndoe would have carried out similar procedures over 50 years ago.
As he worked, Mr Dheansa explained how he would have to take a graft off the patient’s leg to use on the area that had been exposed when the flap that had been made for the nose.'
