Lucy Postgate's Horse Riding School
Passionate about horses
Nestled in the picturesque rolling landscape of the South Downs in East Sussex, is Lucy Postgate's Horse Riding School. Since the 1980s, she's been passionately teaching people of all ages how to ride horses well. She currently owns six and has recently written a book about one of them.
New website
Her short story, entitled 'Storm's Story' is partly the reason Lucy decided to embrace modern technology and have us develop a website for her. Although she's much more comfortable out in the countryside with her animals than sitting infront of a computer, she was also lovely to work with in the studio.
New photography
Despite having plenty of great images spanning the decades she's been teaching, Lucy needed some professional input. So, she asked me if I'd like to help with the project.
At a very early morning meeting at her stables, during which I met a few of the horses, we agreed on a plan of action. This would comprise three separate shoots to cover the stables, lessons in the arena, hacking on the South Downs and more.
Making the most of favourable weather forecasts, good light a few willing riders, we got to work, firstly at the stables. Thankfully, the horses seemed very relaxed around me and the camera, even with the odd flash going off. The chickens got involved, too.
Easy on the eye
We captured some really atmospheric and informative photographs that bring character, warmth and personality to the website. By using an informal, hand held approach to the camera work, they also compliment well, Lucy's back catalogue of shots.
It was also a really fun, enjoyable project to work on and a welcome change from office based corporate photography. If you'd like to book in with Lucy, you'll need to join her waiting list as she's currently very busy.
