Co-op Funeralcare Superhero funeral

PR & press photography for Super Hero themed funeral

Co-op Funeralcare asked me to be their PR and press photographer, covering a very unusual funeral.

This was an event, celebrating the life of a young student who loved comic books and their characters.

Adding to the challenge was the request to also provide HD video of proceedings. Being respectfully discrete and sympathetic while photographing and filming requires skill and sensitivity.

The family asked the undertakers and attendees to all dress as superheroes which certainly added a splash of colour and helped bring a sense of humour to proceedings.

Who was there?

Walking ahead of the hearse, was a proud and dignified She Ra. Flanked by her assistants Batman and Robin with Captain America  behind the wheel. The afternoon Morden traffic slowed and  heads turned.

Other characters in attendance included Woodie from Toy Story, The Joker from Batman and a Star Wars Stormtrooper. Also, present were Miss American Dream, Deadpool, Superman, Gandalf the Grey, Kick-Ass, Catwoman, and more.

A late arriving Buzz Lightyear provided an unintentional moment of humour as he struggled to run to the doors of the crematorium in his enormous comedy boots.

The service was a great success and a very fitting, loving tribute.
